How educator compensation works at KBtL

Educator Compensation - General

Educators are given the option of whether or not to be paid for their contribution to KBtL. We do request that applicants who hold multiple mainstream/non-marginalized identities opt out of payment (be volunteer Educators). Doing so allows us to financially compensate Educators who are multiply marginalized and are less likely and/or less able to find paying opportunities for their work.

What Financial Compensation is Based on Each Event

Financial compensation availability varies at each event and is based on the following:

How many sessions will be at a particular KBtL conference
How many Educators request compensation
The KBtL Budget for financial compensation (which also changes depending on the number of Partnerships in a given year and the tickets that are sold that year)
The number of “paid” Educator slots

Average Amount Offered Per Session

Educators that opt into being financially compensated for their time and expertise, are offered between US $50 and $75 per eligible session. To read more about which sessions are eligible for financial compensation, please look at the GAPS Page: Perks of Being a KBtL Educator.

Additional Compensation Information

KBtL Also recognizes that in some parts of the world/cultures being paid for this type of work is a negative and that it lowers the perceived worth of the Educator. KBtL chooses to offer compensation to those that want it, and does not take offense or judge those who do not wish to be compensated.

KBtL offers financial compensation to Educators only in the following methods:
